Olympia Artspace Alliance Welcomes David Hoekje as Creative District Project Manager

We are pleased to announce the appointment of David Hoekje as Olympia Creative District Project Manager. With a rich photography, artistry, and community engagement background, David brings a wealth of experience and passion to this pivotal role.

A native of Olympia, Washington, David Hoekje is not only a professional photographer and artist but also a lead organizer with the Thurston County Museum of Fine Arts. His dedication to fostering artistic expression and supporting local creatives has made him a valued member of the arts community.

Additionally, David is a teaching artist with the Apprenticeships for the Creative Economy organization, demonstrating his commitment to nurturing emerging talent.

As the newly appointed Creative District Project Manager, David will play a vital role in supporting the recertification of the Olympia Creative District. His responsibilities will extend to collaborating with the Olympia Artspace Alliance to develop a comprehensive Creative District directory. This directory will serve as a valuable resource, identifying creative enterprises, businesses, non-profits, and other entities within the district, thus fostering connectivity and collaboration within the local creative ecosystem.

Furthermore, David will work closely with the Olympia Artspace Alliance to promote events and programming aimed at enriching Olympia's cultural landscape. Through strategic partnerships and community engagement initiatives, he will help amplify the voices of artists and creatives while creating opportunities for meaningful artistic expression and exchange.

The Creative District is a 30-block area of downtown Olympia that is home to over 150 creative enterprises such as theaters, performance spaces, galleries, breweries, and industrial designers. It is also home to many artists, creatives, and independent businesses that support the arts as an economic driver in Olympia’s downtown core.
