Call for Art: Winter Art in Storefronts “The Dreaming Tree”

Calling student artists, classrooms and groups!

Olympia Artspace Alliance invites young artists to explore The Dreaming Tree through the 2026–2027 Winter Art in Olympia Storefronts exhibition at the Goldberg Building in downtown Olympia.

In the Pacific Northwest, trees are more than scenery. They are architects of our ecosystems, holders of ancient memory and silent witnesses to the changing seasons.

What do you dream about while looking up into the canopy?

What memories might an elder recall while resting against an ancient trunk?

What stories are being shared beneath the forest floor through roots and mycelium?

Teachers, classrooms, school groups and student artists are invited to create work inspired by the literal and symbolic gifts trees provide—from oxygen, shelter, shade and nourishment to biodiversity, interconnected forest ecosystems and the quiet wonder of time spent beneath the branches.

What Can You Create?

We welcome a wide range of student artwork and classroom projects, including:

  • Painting and drawing

  • Photography

  • Fiber art

  • Collage

  • Printmaking

  • Sculpture

  • Mixed media

  • Collaborative installations

Students may submit individual pieces, a collection of works connected by a common idea or one shared collaborative project. We encourage young artists to imagine, experiment and tell stories through art.

Before You Apply

Artists and teachers are strongly encouraged to visit the storefront exhibition site before submitting a proposal. Seeing the windows in person will help you understand their size, scale and possibilities. Please contact Olympia Artspace Alliance if you would like to arrange a tour.

Applicants should also read the complete Call for Art before submitting.

The application requires:

  • A mockup of the proposed storefront window display

  • At least one work sample

Your mockup may be hand-drawn or digitally created. It does not need to be highly polished—it simply needs to give the jury a clear sense of how the artwork will be presented in the storefront.

Apply by October 5, 2026
