FEAST – Let’s Dine Together
Olympia Artspace Alliance’s newest Art in Olympia’s Storefronts installation, FEAST – Let’s Dine Together, explores the cultural, emotional, and social rituals that surround food, gathering, and the shared table.
On view in the windows of the Goldberg Building at the corner of Capitol Way and 4th Avenue in downtown Olympia, FEAST brings together the work of four artists whose interpretations reflect the many ways food connects us — to place, culture, memory, family, community, and one another.
Living in the Pacific Northwest, we are surrounded by abundance, from the sea to local farms, orchards, gardens, and forests. FEAST invites viewers to consider dining broadly: a cherished meal, a picnic, an after-party table, foraging, cultural traditions, the food that carries us home, or even the ways animals gather to eat.
Together, the installations create a feast for the eyes and an invitation to think about what it means to gather, nourish, celebrate, and belong.
Meet the Artists
Kay Gaul
Kay Gaul began painting after a career in higher education and has spent the past four to five years exploring a wide range of subjects, including portraiture, landscapes, and still life.
Art has long been part of her life and teaching practice. Throughout her career, she worked in ceramics studios wherever she lived and incorporated studio-based learning into her social science courses. Her work reflects a longstanding curiosity about observation, making, and the connections between creative practice and everyday life.

Dana Squires
Dana Squires is an Olympia artist whose work is deeply influenced by culture, travel, food, and memory.
Raised among grapefruit trees in a small blue-collar California town, Squires traces her family history to her maternal great-grandparents’ citrus and avocado groves established in 1900. The scent of eucalyptus, a kumquat tree, and the foods of home remain part of her artistic vocabulary.
Squires came to Olympia to attend The Evergreen State College and stayed, building a life as an artist, parent, and small-business owner. She was discovered by Seattle gallery owner Bill Traver shortly before graduating from Evergreen in 1979 and exhibited with Traver for several years. Her varied creative life has also included playing violin in a punk band, serving as art director for an international independent music magazine, and completing two Peace Corps terms — one in a village on the edge of the Sahara Desert and another in Melanesia.
Those experiences sparked a lifelong interest in how culture shapes the way we understand the world. When she can travel, she does. When she cannot, she says, she travels through the food she cooks.
David Hoekje
David Hoekje is a photographer and community arts organizer based in Olympia, Washington.
His self-directed photographic practice explores the complex relationship between images and their subjects, with particular interests in alienation and domesticity. As a freelance photographer and arts organizer, he works primarily with independent businesses, artists, and musicians throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Since 2022, Hoekje has also served as executive administrator of the Thurston County Museum of Fine Art.

Leslie Khounsombath
Leslie Khounsombath is a first-generation Lao-American artist raised in Renton, Washington.
A self-taught mixed-media artist, she works across stained glass, painting, wood-burning, fiber arts, and other materials that spark her curiosity. Her work is inspired by the deep and often complex connection people have with themselves, using art as a means of translating that inner experience into physical form.
Through her work, Khounsombath hopes to encourage others to embrace their most authentic selves while continuing to explore installation-based art.

Art in Olympia’s Storefronts is an Olympia Artspace Alliance program that transforms downtown storefront windows into temporary exhibition spaces, creating opportunities for artists while bringing vibrant, accessible art into the heart of the community.
FEAST – Let’s Dine Together is on display at the Goldberg Building in downtown Olympia through early November 2026.
